Keyword Link Delivery

The base template every creator runs. Viewer comments a keyword, gets a DM with a single trackable link.

Use caseSend any link in response to a keyword commentLINKLISTMENUUpdated Jun 2, 2026

This is the base case. The simplest possible Creator Lane funnel — one keyword, one link, one DM. Use it for restaurant menus, podcast episodes, blog posts, Spotify links, YouTube videos, anything where you just need to get a single URL into a viewer's hands fast.

The reason this beats "link in bio" isn't magic. It's friction. Link in bio requires three taps (profile → bio → link tree → actual link) and converts at 1-3%. A DM with the exact link converts at 15-25% because there is one tap between the viewer and the destination.

This template is also the easiest A/B test on Instagram. Run the same Reel twice, one week with a link-in-bio CTA and one week with a comment-to-DM CTA, and watch the click numbers triple.

Hi {name}! Here's the link you asked for:

Full menu with prices and our weekly specials. We update it every Monday so check back when you're ordering next.

If you're ordering today, the Sunday brunch combo is the best value on the page imo. Reply with any questions!

How the funnel works

  1. 1Viewer comments your trigger keyword (LINK / LIST / MENU / whatever you choose) on the post
  2. 2Creator Lane matches the comment against the active campaign and queues the DM
  3. 3DM ships within 10 seconds with the configured link
  4. 4Viewer taps the link, lands on the destination
  5. 5Creator Lane logs the click against the source post and the keyword used
  6. 6Dashboard surfaces clicks per Reel, per keyword, per variant

Tips that move the conversion needle

The base template looks simple. The optimization surface is the script and the trigger word.

  • Pick a keyword that fits the offer. "LINK" works for everything but doesn't prime intent. "MENU" for a restaurant, "TRACK" for a musician, "EPISODE" for a podcaster — the right keyword reads like a verb and lifts comment volume 1.5-2x.
  • Test 2-3 keywords per campaign. Some audiences type all-caps, some don't. Creator Lane is case-insensitive but you can run synonyms (LINK / SHOP / WHERE) in parallel and the dashboard tells you which one your audience prefers.
  • Always wrap your link with Creator Lane's tracking. Even if you don't need attribution today, you'll want the data when you scale. Wrapping is one toggle in the campaign builder.
  • Add one personality line to the DM. "Latest episode is about the 3 things that broke my workflow" converts 30% higher than the bare link. The script is the funnel.
  • Keep the URL on its own line. Instagram auto-renders it as a tappable link only when it's isolated. Bury it mid-sentence and it stays as plain text.
  • Pin a comment with the keyword. "Comment LINK and I'll send it 👇" — your pinned top comment will produce 40-60% of all triggers on a successful Reel.

FAQ

Can I send multiple links in one DM?

Yes, but it converts worse. One link, one tap. Two links means the viewer has to choose, and most won't. If you need to send multiple destinations, send them to a single linktree-style page hosted on your own domain.

What's the max URL length Instagram supports in a DM?

Instagram supports URLs up to 1000 characters, but UTM-bloated URLs over 200 chars often break their auto-render and ship as plain text. Use Creator Lane's wrapper to keep the surfaced URL short and clean — it handles UTMs and source attribution on the backend.

Can I change the link after the campaign is live?

Yes. Edit the campaign and save — the new link replaces the old one for all future DMs immediately. Already-sent DMs keep the original link (that DM is now in the user's inbox forever, Creator Lane can't edit it).

Will the same person get the DM if they comment twice?

No. Creator Lane deduplicates on (commenter, media, account) — one DM per person per post, ever. If they comment again, nothing fires. This stops the "spam loop" problem and keeps you safe with Instagram.

What if they comment the keyword in the middle of a longer comment?

Match modes are configurable. "Contains" mode triggers if the keyword appears anywhere in the comment. "Exact" mode requires the comment to be the keyword and only the keyword. "Starts with" matches the first word. Most creators run Contains for max coverage.

How fast does the DM actually arrive?

Instagram requires a minimum 10-second delay between the comment and the Private Reply DM. Creator Lane respects this — DMs ship 10-15 seconds after the comment lands. Faster than that and Instagram throttles you.

Can I trigger on the same keyword across multiple posts?

Yes — a single campaign can be attached to multiple Reels and posts. Same keyword everywhere, same DM everywhere. If you want different DMs per post, use separate campaigns.

What if the keyword is also a common word?

Avoid common words. "YES" will trigger on every "yes I love this" comment. Pick something distinctive: a verb ("PLAY", "COOK", "READ"), an all-caps brand word, or a short phrase if your match mode supports it.
