This is the bread-and-butter Creator Lane funnel. Someone watches your Reel, comments a keyword like GUIDE, and Creator Lane drops the link to your lead magnet straight into their DMs within ten seconds. They tap the link, hit your landing page, hand over their email in exchange for the resource, and you own that relationship forever — no algorithm in the middle.

Tips that move the conversion needle
The template is simple. The execution is where most creators leave money on the table. A few things that move the needle:
- Tease the resource in the Reel itself. Show one specific page of the PDF on camera. Specificity in the tease lifts comment volume 2-3x vs. a generic "link in bio for more" CTA.
- Pin the trigger keyword in your top comment. "Comment GUIDE and I'll DM you the playbook 👇" — this single pinned comment regularly accounts for 40-60% of total triggers on a viral Reel.
- One keyword per campaign. Don't run GUIDE, FREE, and TIPS as separate campaigns on the same post — Creator Lane handles multiple keywords natively. Multiple campaigns competing for the same comment causes deduplication issues.
- Use the comment-to-DM funnel for cold reach, the welcome DM for new followers. Different intent signals, different scripts.

FAQ
Does this require a business or creator account?
You need a Business account or a Creator account that is switched to a Professional account type and connected to a Facebook Page. Personal accounts cannot receive webhook subscriptions or send Private Reply DMs through the Instagram Graph API.
What happens if Instagram rate-limits my account?
Creator Lane queues every DM and respects Instagram's per-account rate limit (200 send-message calls per hour for most accounts, throttled lower if your account is new). Rate-limited jobs are re-enqueued automatically — no DMs are lost. See our rate limit glossary entry for the full table.
Will Instagram flag this as spam?
No, because the DM is a Private Reply — Instagram's official mechanism for replying to a comment via DM. The receiving user's comment is treated as the consent signal. This is the same API the Meta Business Suite uses. We have not seen a single account flagged for using it correctly in the 18 months since launch.
Do I need to add an FTC disclosure?
If the resource you're sending is free and not affiliate-linked, no. If you're sending an affiliate link or a paid product link, yes — add "Heads up, this includes affiliate links" or similar on the landing page and in the DM itself. See the affiliate template for the full pattern.
Can I send a second DM if they don't open the first?
Yes — Instagram's 24-hour messaging window lets you send follow-ups inside the day after the user's comment. After 24 hours, you need a Human Agent tag or a Message Tag to message them again. Creator Lane lets you schedule one follow-up at the 22-hour mark by default.
How do I track which Reel produced the lead?
Every DM ships with a Creator Lane-wrapped tracking link that pegs the click to the source Reel ID, the keyword, and the campaign variant. The dashboard shows clicks, email conversions, and revenue (if you wire up the e-commerce webhook) per Reel.
What if someone comments the keyword on an old post?
It still fires. Creator Lane watches comments across all your posts forever, not just the latest one. Old Reels that keep getting reach in 2027 will still convert through the same campaign you set up today.
Can I personalize the DM beyond {name}?
You get {name} and {username} tokens out of the box. For deeper personalization (referencing the specific Reel they commented on, time-of-day greeting, etc.) use Creator Lane's variant system — A/B test up to 4 scripts per campaign and let the higher-converting variant get more traffic automatically.
