A useful first local-business package solves a concrete communication problem. A café might need to show where the entrance is, how ordering works and what a takeaway looks like. A salon might need to explain how to prepare for an appointment. The job is not automatically “make the business viral.”

A recent creator discussion describes making short videos for local businesses. Its income and tool claims are personal reports, not benchmarks we have verified. The café package below is our original illustrative exercise, not a real client case study.

Ask five questions before offering a package

What should a nearby customer understand? What action should follow? Which facts can the owner approve? When can you film without disrupting staff or customers? Who signs off on the script and finished files?

Ask about filming permission, recognisable people, music, prices and any claims that need checking. Do not assume every customer in the room agreed to appear in an advertisement. Avoid recording payment screens, private booking details or staff conversations.

A small fictional café package

DeliverableViewer questionCore footage
Arrival Reel“Where is it and what does the entrance look like?”Real exterior, entrance and ordering point.
Product demonstration“What am I actually getting?”The real item being prepared and handed over.
Practical FAQ“Can I order takeaway, and how?”The actual takeaway process and approved instruction.

Three deliverables are an example, not a required package size. Specify the agreed duration range, format, captions, revision rounds and delivery date. State whether the scope includes clean masters, raw footage or alternate hooks.

Film for the facts, not only the atmosphere

On a phone, collect an establishing view, a clear action and a useful detail for each concept. Hold shots long enough to edit. Check voice recording before an interview. Protect focus and exposure where your camera supports it, and review a sample on location while a missed shot can still be corrected.

If the owner asks to show a particular feature, record it working. A generated close-up of a pastry, interior or treatment is not evidence of the item or service the customer will receive. Use AI for a storyboard or clearly illustrative graphic where appropriate, not to invent the business's premises or results.

Original scripts you can adapt

Arrival:

Looking for [café name]? Here is the entrance from [accurate nearby reference]. Order at [actual ordering point], then [approved next step]. Check our current opening hours before travelling.

Product:

This is the [actual item]. Here is how it is prepared, and here is the finished serving. Ask the team about ingredients or dietary requirements before ordering.

Takeaway:

In a hurry? Here is our takeaway process: [actual steps]. For current availability and collection details, use [approved contact or ordering route].

These are placeholders, not invented facts. Replace every bracket, remove unsupported claims and have the owner approve names, instructions and any price before export. Do not add a fabricated customer review to make the script persuasive.

Price the entire job

Estimate discovery, travel, setup, filming, editing, revisions and delivery—not just recording time. Include props or licensed assets where needed. Use the brand-deal quote calculator with your own rate and costs. It does not provide a market price for your town.

Posting, comment replies, community management, new-account setup, ad buying and ongoing reporting are separate responsibilities unless explicitly included. The UGC retainer calculator helps inspect recurring offers whose workload is less clear.

Make approval easy to complete

Send a review link or file with a version number. Ask for one consolidated, timecoded response from the agreed approver. Distinguish correction of your missed requirement from a newly requested concept. Use the editor-feedback worksheet and keep approved copy alongside the final export.

Before delivery, check playback, captions, important details, music permissions and the agreed public destination. Do not publish to the client's account just because you have the file; obtain approval and appropriate access for that separate step.

Report what you can actually measure

If the business later shares Insights or enquiries, compare a stated period and definition. A view is not a visit to the café. An enquiry is not a confirmed order. Report what was observed and what remains unknown rather than claiming that your three videos caused a sales increase.

One useful repeatable package can become a stronger service than a broad promise to run every platform. Start with a job you can demonstrate, deliver and improve.

Frequently asked

How much should I charge for local-business Reels?
Build a quote from your actual scope, hours, costs, rights and responsibilities. This guide does not establish a local market rate or guarantee that a particular price will be accepted.
Should the package include Instagram account management?
Only if it is explicitly scoped and priced. Delivering edited files is different from publishing, replying, maintaining accounts or managing advertising.
