Meta announced Muse for Small Business on September 29, 2026. It says Muse can connect Instagram professional analytics, Facebook Pages, Meta ad accounts and several business tools, then work with your brand context and customer questions. Meta also says nothing publishes, sends or spends without your approval. That is an important boundary, not a drawback to hide.

What “connects to Instagram” does not prove

Connecting analytics may help an agent summarize performance or suggest work. It does not automatically establish that the agent can monitor every new comment, recognize your exact keyword, send a product-specific DM, handle opt-outs and report delivery outcomes. Those are separate requirements. Likewise, “respond to customers” in a product announcement needs to be checked against the precise surface, account eligibility, approval flow and message type in the app you can access.

A safe first test

Give the system a reversible, narrow job: summarize the last week's top-performing posts and draft three follow-up ideas. Compare the summary with the underlying analytics. Does it distinguish views from saves, replies and purchases? Does it cite the right period? Ask it to draft a response to a common customer question, then review the answer without sending it. This checks usefulness without publishing or messaging people.

Only after that should you evaluate an operational task. Write a test case: a real viewer comments a specific word on a specific Reel and should receive one exact link. Check whether Muse actually supports the trigger, whether it needs approval before every send, what happens after hours, and how failed sends or opt-outs are recorded. If those details are not available, do not market it as a replacement for a dedicated DM system.

Compare by job, not by AI branding

An AI assistant may be valuable for analysis, planning and drafting. A deterministic automation may be better for repeated, auditable delivery. A human still owns customer support exceptions, order disputes and claims that require judgment. You might use more than one; the tools solve different parts of the operation.

Record access granted, approval requirements, result quality and errors. Remove unnecessary connections after the trial. Meta's announcement describes a fast-moving product; recheck current documentation before making a procurement decision.

Frequently asked

Does Muse automatically send Instagram DMs?
Do not infer that from its ability to connect an Instagram account. Verify the exact supported trigger, approval and message workflow in your available Muse plan; Meta says nothing sends without your approval.
Can Muse replace a social media manager?
It may help with analytics, drafting and some tasks, but creative judgment, customer exceptions, permissions and final approval remain business responsibilities.
