For caption-heavy work, compare the route from speech to approved text to final deliverables. Premiere and Resolve both sit inside larger editing workflows, so the right choice depends on your edition, existing projects and delivery requirements. Evaluate recognition, correction, translation and export as separate stages instead of choosing from an animated-caption demo alone.

Documentation basis: Premiere caption workflow; Premiere caption translation. The recommendations below are editorial analysis and original teaching exercises, not a hands-on product benchmark or a forecast of search performance.

Which caption deliverables must be specified first?

Ask whether the client needs burned-in text, a subtitle sidecar, an editable project or several language tracks. These are different deliverables. Write the exact file requirements before testing either editor, because a visually correct MP4 does not replace an editable subtitle file.

How do you compare transcript correction?

Use speech with names, numbers and one difficult phrase. Count corrections and check whether editing the transcript updates the intended caption segment. Listen again after text changes; a correctly spelled word can still be placed at the wrong moment.

What matters for translation work?

Keep transcription and translation separate. Approve the original transcript before creating another language, then review the translation with someone fluent in the audience's language. Confirm which operations use cloud services before processing private client footage.

How should styling be evaluated?

Test line breaks, safe placement and readability on a phone, not just a large editing monitor. Check long words and two-line captions. Animation should not obscure the speaker or make text disappear before it can be read.

Which editor should an existing team choose?

Prefer the workflow the team can reliably revise and hand off unless another tool solves a demonstrated constraint. A small advantage in automatic transcription may disappear if project exchange, media relinking or client revisions become more difficult.

A practical exercise

Create a 45-second clip with a product name, a date and a mixed-language phrase. Deliver a captioned preview and the requested editable text format from each candidate. Score corrections, timing, layout and handoff separately. Confirm the Resolve edition used so the comparison does not imply paid features are universally free.

Before you decide

  • Specify final files first.
  • Approve source text before translation.
  • Check edition and cloud-processing boundaries.
