YouTube Shorts viewed vs swiped away calculator

Turn your own YouTube Studio percentages into an estimated feed-decision count. Compare with your usual rate, then inspect retention before rewriting your hook.

Read your Studio numbers

Use one Short and one date window. YouTube Studio displays “How many chose to view” as a percentage; the counts below are estimates when that percentage is rounded.

What to check next

  1. Watch the first frame without sound. Is the topic and value clear?
  2. Read the retention graph. Did people who chose to view stay for the answer?
  3. Compare Shorts on similar topics and in the same reporting window.
  4. Change one opening element, then observe several posts—not one lucky upload.

Where the inputs come from

In YouTube Studio, open Analytics for one Short and look for “Shown in feed” and “How many chose to view.” These are not identical to total channel views. The count this tool displays is estimated because Studio may round the percentage.

See YouTube's Shorts analytics documentation for the platform definitions, and use our worked diagnosis to plan a controlled content test.

One number cannot diagnose a Short.

A low view-choice rate suggests an opening to inspect. Strong initial choice followed by weak retention points to a different part of the video. Learn how to read both before changing your next upload.
