01 · Media kit playbook

What a media kit is for

A media kit is the document a brand opens after a creator pitches them. Its job is to do three things in under thirty seconds: prove the audience is real, justify the rate, and make the creator look like someone a brand manager can hand to their CMO without flinching.

The kits that fail are the ones treating the document like a resume — long, dense, history-heavy, and obsessed with follower count. The kits that win treat the document like a sales one-pager. Audience, engagement, rate. Three numbers, one screen, one decision.

You also need a kit for a quieter reason: the moment a brand asks for one and you do not have it, you signal you are not a working professional. Even if the rest of your output is brilliant, the friction of building a kit on the fly costs you the deal. The brand either ghosts you or quotes you down because they read the delay as inexperience.

The 5 things brands actually look at

Most creator kits over-index on follower count. Follower count is the single weakest signal in 2026 — bot inflation, dormant accounts, and algorithmic reach decoupling from total followers all mean a 90K account with 0.6% ER reaches fewer real humans than a 12K account with 6% ER. Brands know this. Their checklist looks more like:

  1. Engagement rate, tier-tagged. 3% on a nano is average. 3% on a macro is elite. The number is useless without the tier label, which is why the generator above ships with both.
  2. Audience demographics. Top three countries, age band, gender split. A skincare brand pitching the GCC needs 40%+ of the audience in the GCC. A US DTC needs US over 50%. Hiding the split means the brand has to ask, which means the brand moves on.
  3. Content quality. Two or three recent Reels that visually align with the brand. Linked, not embedded. Brand manager opens them, watches ten seconds, decides.
  4. Brand-fit examples. Past deliverables that look like the deliverable the brand is shopping for. A coffee brand wants to see your last coffee Reel, not your protein-powder kit. Two on-brand examples beat ten generic ones.
  5. Response time. If you reply to brand outreach in under six hours during business days, lead with it. Slow replies are the most common reason small brands quietly drop creators.

How to actually price yourself

The wrong question is “what is my rate?” The right one is “what is my baseline times my niche multiplier times my usage and exclusivity premium?” The generator's auto-fill walks this math for you, but it is worth understanding the inputs:

  • Baseline by tier. Nano creators ($50-300 per Reel), micro ($250-2,000), mid ($2K-10K), macro ($10K-50K). Mid-point of your tier is a sane anchor.
  • Niche multiplier. Finance and B2B are 1.5-2x the baseline because the audience is small but each follower is a high-CAC target. Tech is 1.4x. Beauty 1.2x. Lifestyle is the baseline. Comedy and meme accounts run 0.5-0.7x — big reach, weak commercial intent.
  • Usage rights premium. Default rate covers organic posting on your handle only. Brand wants to run it as paid? Add 50-150% of base. Brand wants perpetual paid rights? Add 100-200% and refuse unless the multiplier is real — perpetual rights end your ability to ever quote that creative again.
  • Exclusivity premium. Brand wants you to not work with competitors for 30/60/90 days? Add 25/50/75% per category. Always cap the exclusivity window.

Common media kit mistakes

  1. Fake stats. Brands check. They request Insights screenshots, run your handle through HypeAuditor or Modash, and compare your claimed reach against their internal benchmarks. Get caught once and you are blacklisted at every agency that talks to that brand.
  2. Missing demographics. A media kit without country and age split signals you do not know your audience. Even ballparked numbers from Instagram Insights are infinitely better than nothing.
  3. Dated examples. Anything older than 12 months is stale. Anything older than 18 months is harmful. The creator economy moves fast and brand managers know what last year's aesthetic looks like.
  4. No rate transparency. “Let's chat” instead of a starting price wastes the brand's time and gets you screened out. Anchor a rate. They will negotiate from it.
  5. Wall of text. If your bio block is more than two sentences, cut it. The brand has ten seconds. Spend them on the payload, not your origin story.
  6. No CTA. Every kit needs one line at the bottom saying how to book a call or reply. The generator includes contact info as a default — fill it in.

When to update your kit

A stale kit is worse than no kit. The three triggers that should force an update:

  • Quarterly, minimum. Block a recurring 15-minute calendar reminder. Update follower count, ER, top-country share, and the bio quote. That is the whole job.
  • After a viral Reel. If a post cleared 5x your average reach, your reach and ER numbers will look very different. Re-export Insights for the trailing 30 days and refresh the stats block — your rate goes up too.
  • After a brand-deal milestone. Closed a deal above your previous ceiling? Update the rate card the same week. The kit is not a backward-looking document; it is the price you charge today.

Three niche-specific kit examples

The kit changes shape across niches. Three worked examples so you can pattern-match.

Fitness micro creator · 25K followers

@mayarao.fit
Stats
  • Followers25,000
  • Avg reach21,000
  • ER7.3% (elite for micro)
  • Audience72% F · 25-34 · India / US / UK
Rates
  • Reel$1,150 (lifestyle baseline 1.15x)
  • Story$230
  • Carousel$690
  • Bundle$1,725

The 7.3% ER lets her charge slightly above the micro mid-point. The 72% female 25-34 audience is the exact pocket women's activewear brands fight for, so she leads with that line.

B2B / SaaS micro creator · 8K followers

@nilesh.b2b
Stats
  • Followers8,000
  • Avg reach5,400
  • ER5.2% (top 10% for nano)
  • Audience64% M · 25-34 · US / India / Canada
Rates
  • Reel$450 (B2B 1.75x of nano baseline)
  • Story$90
  • Carousel$270
  • Bundle$675

Eight thousand followers, but the niche multiplier is 1.75x and audience CAC for B2B SaaS is $150+. He should never pitch a lifestyle baseline rate.

Beauty mid creator · 80K followers

@iri.beauty
Stats
  • Followers80,000
  • Avg reach62,000
  • ER3.1% (top 10% for micro)
  • Audience88% F · 18-24 · US / UK / Australia
Rates
  • Reel$1,200 (micro top end · beauty 1.2x)
  • Story$240
  • Carousel$720
  • Bundle$1,800

Eighty thousand sits at the top of the micro tier. With 1.2x beauty multiplier and an 88% female 18-24 audience, she anchors at $1,200 and adds 100% for paid usage rights.

FAQ · Media kit playbook

Frequently asked

Can I make this without a designer?

Yes. That is the whole point. Fill the form, pick a template, hit Download as PDF. The output is print-ready at A4 and renders cleanly on any modern browser. You do not need Figma, Canva, or a designer.

What is a good engagement rate for a media kit?

Tier-dependent. For nano (<10K) the average is 4% and elite is 10%+. For micro (10K-100K) average is 2.5% and elite is 7%+. For mid (100K-500K) average is 1.8% and elite is 5%+. The generator tags your ER against your tier automatically so brands see context, not just a number.

Should I include past brand deals?

If they are recent (under 12 months) and relevant to the brand you are pitching, yes. If they are 3-year-old gifted posts from random brands, leave them out. Two or three on-brand examples beat a long list of unrelated ones.

What if my followers are mostly from one country?

Lead with it. A 90% India audience is an asset when pitching India-first brands and a liability when pitching US DTC. Either way, brands need to know up front. Hiding the split wastes everyone's time.

Should I include vanity metrics like total likes lifetime?

No. Brands ignore vanity totals. They want average reach per post, save rate, share rate, story view-through. The four metrics in the generator (followers, ER, avg reach, story views) are the only four that travel.

PDF or PNG — which should I send?

PDF for cold email and brand decks (it preserves text, links, and resolution). PNG for DM pitches and Instagram chat (brands open images instantly; PDFs get ignored on mobile). Send both if you want to be thorough.

How should I send the kit?

Email > Notion link > DM. Email lets you attach a PDF and write a tailored pitch. Notion is great if you update the kit often (one link, always current). DMs work if a brand reaches out first, but cold-pitching via DM is a poor surface for serious deals.

How long should the kit be?

One page. Two if you include sample content. Brand managers scan, they do not read. If your value is not visible in the first 5 seconds, you have lost.

Should I list price ranges or single prices?

Single anchor prices, not ranges. Ranges signal you have not done the math. A clean line that says Reel: $1,500 with a small note (paid usage and exclusivity quoted separately) wins more deals than $1K-$3K.

Should I quote in USD or my local currency?

Use the currency the brand pays in. US brands pay USD. EU brands pay EUR. India brands pay INR. If you mostly work with US brands, anchor in USD with an INR equivalent in brackets. Multi-currency pitches read as professional.

Does the generator save my data?

No. Everything stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or tracked. Refresh and your inputs reset. Bookmark the page and re-enter when you need an updated kit.

Can I edit the rate card after auto-fill?

Yes. The generator picks a defensible starting point from your tier and niche, then lets you override every package. If finance or B2B is your niche, the auto-fill applies a 1.75x multiplier on the baseline because those audiences are paid more.

What if I have zero brand deals yet?

Lead with audience and engagement. A 12K micro account with 6% ER, 60% US audience, and a clear niche is more valuable to most brands than a 90K lifestyle account with 0.8% ER. Quote at the low end of your tier and prove value on the first deal.

How is the PDF generated?

Browser-native print. The Download as PDF button triggers window.print() with a print stylesheet that hides everything except the kit preview. No third-party service, no upload, no watermark.

Can brands verify the stats I list?

Yes, and they do. Brand managers request Instagram Insights screenshots (the 30-day reach and engagement view from your professional dashboard). Faking stats is the single fastest way to get blacklisted at every agency that talks to that brand. Quote what you can screenshot.

What if I work across reels, stories, and feed posts?

List the bundle. A 1 Reel + 3 Stories + 1 Carousel pack at 2x your Reel rate is easier to sell than four separate line items. The generator includes a bundle row by default — adjust the discount to taste.

How often should I update the kit?

Quarterly at minimum. After a viral post, immediately. After any new brand deal that lands above your current rate, within a week. Stale stats are the most common reason a kit gets ignored.

Do I need a logo or branding?

No. The kit looks finished without one. If you want to add personal branding, the Modern Minimal template uses a single accent color you can match to your Instagram grid. Pick a template that does not fight your existing aesthetic.
