A new model release is a reason to evaluate, not automatically migrate. Kling 4.0's announcement describes expanded generation capabilities, but the provider interface and output settings still matter. Keep a successful Kling 3 workflow available until the newer route passes the shots and revisions your projects depend on.

Documentation basis: Kuaishou announces Kling 4.0; Kling 4 on fal. The recommendations below are editorial analysis and original teaching exercises, not a hands-on product benchmark or a forecast of search performance.

What should an upgrade test reuse?

Reuse approved references, shot objectives and acceptance checks from prior work. Keep the original successful output as a reference. Changing the subject, prompt and delivery format at the same time makes it impossible to tell whether the model change improved the workflow.

Can you assume every output setting improved?

No. Check the current provider's settings for the exact model and mode. Resolution, access and export options may differ across releases and interfaces. Avoid extrapolating a product launch claim into a guarantee about every account or third-party integration.

Which failures should block migration?

Block migration when product identity, required framing or revision stability regresses on important work. More impressive optional effects do not compensate for failing a nonnegotiable requirement. Keep a clear distinction between desirable improvements and conditions the deliverable must satisfy.

How should old prompts be handled?

Use them as a starting point, then adjust only where the new model's documented controls require it. Save prompt versions and note the reason for each change. Avoid treating a heavily rewritten prompt as evidence that the model alone produced a better result.

When should both versions remain available?

Keep both when each has a demonstrated role and the operational overhead is acceptable. Record which model produced each asset. Do not mix versions silently in a recurring series if the change creates visible inconsistency or complicates later revisions.

A practical exercise

Choose three previously accepted shots: a static product, a simple motion and a reference-sensitive subject. Recreate their objectives with the new model using existing access only. Compare required details and revision behavior. Migrate the shot types that pass instead of replacing the entire workflow based on launch excitement.

Before you decide

  • Keep the old baseline.
  • Verify provider-specific settings.
  • Migrate by tested shot type.
