A review export needs an unambiguous way to locate requested changes. Burned-in timecode can help when a shared player does not provide reliable frame references, while a clean preview better represents the final appearance. Use a labeled review copy and preserve the clean master. Do not let review markings become an accidental part of the published deliverable.

Documentation basis: Premiere project consolidation and archiving; Premiere caption workflow. The recommendations below are editorial analysis and original teaching exercises, not a hands-on product benchmark or a forecast of search performance.

When is a visible time reference useful?

Use one when feedback travels through screenshots, chat messages or different players that make the moment hard to identify. Include a version label too. A time reference without a version can still point to the wrong shot after the opening sequence changes.

What should the reviewer understand about the copy?

State whether the file is for story, text, sound or final visual approval. A review overlay may cover details and should not be the only source for judging composition. Explain which file is the clean reference without sending a confusing set of nearly identical filenames.

Why can player time and timeline time disagree?

Different starting references and subsequent edits can make a numeric note ambiguous. Agree on the reference used for the review and keep that export available. Do not reinterpret a note against a newer cut just because its filename looks similar to the approved review version.

How should feedback be turned into editing actions?

Record the version, location, requested change and decision owner. Separate a factual correction from a subjective preference. Consolidate conflicting notes before editing so the project does not alternate between incompatible instructions from different reviewers.

What prevents a marked copy from being published?

Use clearly separated review and delivery folders, then inspect the entire final file before handoff. Check the opening, closing and any overlays rather than trusting a preset name. The final approval note should identify the exact filename that is intended for publication.

A practical exercise

Make a short review copy from an existing authorized edit and label its version visibly. Ask a collaborator to describe three changes with locations. Apply one change that shifts later timing, then show why the old notes must remain attached to the old version. Export and inspect a clean final copy separately.

Before you decide

  • Pair every note with a version.
  • Separate review and final files.
  • Inspect the clean delivery.
